Green Cleaning, Part One

Hello friends, it was a very busy and long day for me hence the late post. Thank God I finally wrote it. I want to share with you some cool, non-toxic on-the-budget cleaning tips I use at home. You can try them when next you are cleaning and I know you would love them.

Many cleaning products today are toxic, expensive and might not give you the kind of results that you want. I want to share with you some amazing "green tricks" you can use to clean your home and yes, most of them are tested and proven effective. Sometimes, all you really need  to do your cleaning are just those things you find around your kitchen like lemon, baking soda, vinegar, etc. These methods will not only help you save cost, it will also help you personalize the scent of your home and prevent constant contact with chemicals especially in homes with kids. Now, let the cleaning begin........

Tip 1 - Cleaning your bath tub with salt and lemon - Cut the lemon in half and sprinkle salt onto it. Use this to scrub the surface of your bath tub. Allow it to sit for a few minutes and then scrub with a fibre sponge and rinse off.

Tip 2 - Unclogging your drains with baking soda, vinegar and water - Run hot water down the drain for about one minute, pour 1/4 cup of baking soda in the drain hole, sprinkle water on it and let it sit for about 10 minutes then pour a cup of vinegar onto it.You will see a bubble reaction. Don't be scared, it only means our drain is becoming freer. Cover the the drain hole with the plug (if you have one) and leave it for 5 minutes. Then finally rinse with hot water. Yipee!!! we don't need a plumber to do the dirty job.

Tip 3 - Removing hard stains from your cooker or oven with baking soda, vinegar and water - Mix about 1/2 cup of baking soda with a few spoons of table water to form paste and coat the surface of your cooker of oven. Leave it overnight or at least for about 12 hours (I prefer overnight cos the cooker is not in use then). Use a spray bottle to spray the vinegar onto the surface. You will notice a bubble reaction. Wipe it off with a damp towel or cloth (be sure to put on rubber gloves).

Tip 4 - Freshening carpet with baking soda - Sprinkle baking  soda onto the carpet and let it sit for about fifteen minutes. Then vacuum it. Hmm.... royal freshness.

Tip 5 - Removing wall stains with baking soda - Sprinkle a damp sponge generously with baking soda and rub on the stain, then wipe with a damp cloth. I know parents with little kids will love this. Its a fantastic non toxic method of taking crayon stains off your wall.

I have many more green cleaning ideas but I really have to go now. Don't worry, there will definitely be a part two. Don't forget to comment on the results you get when you try any one out. Thanks for stopping by. See ya later.
